BADMINTON
CHAMPIONSHIPS BEGUN FIRST IN HISTORY OF PROVINCE For the first time in the history of Canterbury badminton championships are being held in the city, the tournament being conducted by the newlyformed Canterbury Badminton Association, which consists of four Christchurch clubs and one from Ashburton. Entries number about 60, the contestants including C. E. Malfroy, run-ner-up at the last New Zealand tennis championships, and such well-known Canterbury tennis players as D. F. Glanville and J. G. A'Court. The tournament, which includes both championship and handicap events, is being held in the rooms of Todd Motors, Victoria street, and play will continue this evening, and on Saturday night, when the finals will be decided. ! Play last evening was keen, and although some of the players are comparative newcomers to the game, a number of fast matches was witnessed.
