Valedictory. A farewell was tendered on Thursday to Mr G. W. Sampson, resident public works engineer at Greymouth, who will leave this week on transfer to Waiignnui, and a presentation of a fire screen and guard and a coal scuttle was made. ■Women's Golf. A Ladies" Golf Union medal match played, by members of the Grcymouth Ladies' Golf Club yesterday resulted: —Senior: Mrs Cunningham, 88—9—79; Miss Kellv, 94—15—79. Junior: Miss J. G. Hamblcton, 109—31—78; Miss Berry, .103—24—-79; Mrs Kehoc, 109— 29-80. The final of the junior championship resulted in a win for Miss Kelly, who beat Miss Hopkins, 4 up r>nd 3. In the semi-finals Miss Kelly beat Miss Berry and Miss Hopkins beat Miss J. Hamblcton. REEFTON NEWS PERSONAL (.srr.<:;,\L to the rn&ss.) REEFTON, September 8. Mrs Parker and her daughter COamaru) are visiting Mr and Mrs E. W. Burley, Sinnamon street. Mr T. Keesing (Westport) is- on aj business trip to Rccfton. Tenders Accepted. Mr I. Patterson presided over a meeting of the Inangahua Sub-Union Gymnasium Committee held last evening. It was decided to accept the lowest tender, that of Mr Yellowlees, of Cronadun, for the sum of £583 for the erection of the building. The tender of Mr C. P. Mori for the purchase and removal of buildings on the gymnasium site was also accepted. The! time for the erection of the gymnasium is ten v/eeks from the signing of i the contract. Thistle Tennis Club. A social and dance in aid of the Thistle Tennis Club was held in St. Stephen's Hall last evening. The members of the committee responsible were Mesdamcs Campbell and Duff, Misses Rollerson, Watson, and Woods, Messrs Allen, Forbes, and McDonald. Items given were: Song, Mrs Burnett, recitations, Misses Freda Patterson and L. Burns, dances, Misses Gladys McKenzie, Margaret Hawthorn, and Heather Wright. Mr Don rupplicd the music. Mr K. Armstrong presiding, it was decided to open a special bank account for all euchre tournament proceeds, it being suggested that the money be later used for a library for the primary school. It was decided to ask the Canterbury Education Board for a special grant for the school. The board wrote stating that the committee's application for an assistant teacher had been placed before the senior inspector for a report. Harbour Board. Mr E. W. I-leenan presided over a meeting of the Hokitika Harbour Board. It was resolved to call tenders for 100 loads of pit gravel. A report was received from the engineer characterising whitebait trenches as "mischievous" and recommending the prohibition of such trenches for at least 15 chains upstream from Rutland's Island, and it was decided to draw the attention of the inspector to the motion on the board's books concerning the erection of trenches in that part of the river.
