MEETING OF LILY CIRCLE A meeting of the lily circle of the Canterbury Horticultural Society was held last evening, Dr. T. Fletcher Telford presiding over a good attendance of members. The president read a paper prepared by Mr A. D. Cotton, F.L.S., on the detection and control of lily diseases. Examples of the difference in growth between hothouse lilies and those grown in the open were shown by Mr M. J. Barnett, who had brought several pots of germinated plants with him. "It will be hard to part with my collection of lilies." said Mr F. J. Shanks, referring to his early departure from Christchurch. "Whenever I look at them they seem to gaze reproachfully back at me. Barnett would take care of the collection, and Mr Barnett had already made arrangements to transplant some of the rarer varieties to his own garden.
