ALARM IN FRANCE COMPETITION IN LABOUR MARKET LONDON, August 16. The Paris correspondent of "The Times" says that the Metz, Colmar, and Strasburg Chambers of Commerce have protested to the Government against the influx of German refugees into the eastern departments. There are 40,000 of these refugees, and their competition threatens local traders and floods the labour market. The position is becoming worse every day.

ANOTHER ATTACK ON AUSTRIA HEIIR JIABICHT'S BROADCAST BERLIN," August 16. Herr Habicht (Herr Hitler's personal inspector for Austria) has again attacked Austria in a wireless broadcast. He said nobody made any suggestion to raise her from a condition of hunger and beggary. The League of Nations looked on while Austria enjoyed fewer rights than a negro tribe. BERLIN, August 16? The communists are still desperately combating Nazi rule, printing and distributing pamphlets in spite of the vigilance of the secret police. The printing presses are installed in the most unlikely places. A modern' machine producing thousands of pamphlets daily was unearthed in a cave at Koenigstein Forest, 30 feet underground. The police have arrested 18 leaders of the communist information service, and interned 33 others, on charges of treason. \ RELAXATION OF SHIPPING ORDER BERLIN. August 16. The Ministry of Economics is now allowing foreign shipping companies to transfer the full amount of passage money paid if it is in foreign cui'rency. It is also considering further measures which will safeguard the interests of foreign shipping and at the same time be compatible with the German currency position.
