A NEW STAR SEEN

■ <► ADVICE FROM MELBOURNE OBSERVATORY ■(,PK£SS iSSOCUTIOX TELKCXAM.) WELLINGTON, August 17. Dr. C. E. Adams, the Government Astronomer, to-day received a cable message from Melbourne—presumably from the observatory thereannouncing the discovery of a nova, or new star, in Ophiuchus, an extensive constellation which lies north of the Scorpion. It was seen on August 15, and was of the sixth magnitude, so that it cannot be seen with the naked eye. It is not likely to increase in brightness, but it will no doubt be closely studied by owners of telescopes, especially those fitted with spectroscopes. No indication of the exact position was cabled.
