ORPHANAGES APPEAL

£6OO PROM RADIO CONCERT The amount received to date from the concert broadcast from 3YA, in aid of the Combined Orphanages Appeal has reached a total of £6OO. Mr C. ,E. Jones announced that the amount of the bread bill for the three homes was £SOO, but the additional £IOO would be required to meet ilie rise in the price of bread. A donation of 21 sacks of Reefton screened coal for distribution to the three orphanag.es has been received by Mr C. E. Jones. A Reefton resident, Mr W. E: Burley, in a letter, stated that he was very interested in the broadcast appeal for funds, and made up his mind to see what help he could give. He collected the sum of £5 16s 6d, all those contributing being interested in coal mining in Reefton. Mr Burley explained that as well as providing warmth for the children it would help to provide work for the miners in Reefton.
