ANNUAL MEETING HELD OFFICERS ELECTED The annual meeting of New Zealand Grassland Association was held at the conclusion of the conference yesterday. In the absence of the president (Mr A. H. Cockayne), who was unable to be present owing to illness, Dr. E. Marsden, Director of the-De-partment of Scientific and Industrial Research, was chosen to preside. A brifef report from the president was read by the secretary (Mr R. P. Connell). It said that since the first meeting, held nearly two years ago, the association had progressed satisfactorily, and expressed the thanks of the association to Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf, to Mr G. H. Holford, and to the newspapers of the Dominion. On the motion of Mr R. P. Connell the constitution was altered to provide a general committee of 12. including the president and secretary, and 10 other members to be elected at the annual meeting, and an executive committee of five, including the president and secretary, to be elected by the general committee. The motion also gave the executive committee power to add to the general committee. The chairman suggested that an annual meeting might beheld of all agricultural research Scientists, the various sections, dairying, wool, meat, and wheat, coming together to exchange views on subjects of interest to groups and to discuss subjects of special interest sectionally. The meeting discussed the proposal as well as a motion from Mr A. W. Hudson, that the executive should consider the question of affiliating the association with similar organisations, but no action was taken. Certified Seed position. Mr G. H. Holford moved that the executive of the association be instructed to arrange for the Preparation of a report regarding the certified seed position from the farmers Vl Mr > cf t H. Hewlett, seconded the motion. j Mr J. W. Hadfield expressed the opinion that the South Island . "was chiefly interested in such an investigation, and that it should be carried out by a committee composed ot ooucn Island experts. , ... Mr R. B. Tennent agreed with i\ir Hadfleld. but Mr M. J. Scott remarked that the amount of production in eacn island was about the sapf- , i Mr R. P. Connell said he doubted -V whether the association, in view of j printed aims and objects, could under- - take such a task, which seemed likely to trespass on the duties of tne department of Scientific and Industrial Research. , . Mr E- J. Fawcett moved as an amendment that the association recommend to the Minister for Agriculture the desirability of a full investigation into the position of certified seeds in the farm economy of New Zealand, and this amendment was carne T' toi a.
