MEETING OF COMMITTEE At the last meeting of the Papanui School Committee Mr L. Claridge presided and there were also presentMessrs C. Dyer, S. Craighead, J. Cains, W. Sandford, G. Wray, R. Donald, W. Henderson, and A. Nettleton, The acting headmaster, Mr L. J. Thwaites, in his report for the last five weeks, said that the number on the roll was 234, and the average attendance had been 217. Standards IV., V., and VI. had visited the Winter Show. In the seven-a-side football tournament, held in Hagley Park, two of the school's teams had reached the second round. Under the Business Men's Committee's scheme for the relief of distress several pairs of boots and shoes had been given to necessitous cases. The request from the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Council of Religious Education for the provision of religious instruction in the school, which was held over from the last meeting, was granted.
