BEQUESTS OF £IO,OOO

<t PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BENEFITS. Public bequests amounting to nearly £IO,OOO are provided for in the will of Miss Mary Carter, of Timaru road, Waimate, who died on July 22. A bequest is made to Knox Presbyterian Church, Waimate, for building a new church, and a sum of £IOOO is left to Knox College, Dunedin. The residue of the estate, after certain provisions for relatives, is left equally between the Timaru Presbyterian Orphanage, the Presbyterian Church Home Mission Fund, the Foreign Mission Fund, the Theological College Committee, and the New Zealand branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society. It is estimated that each of these five bodies will receive approximately £IOOO. The minister of Knox Presbyterian Church, Waimate, told a representative of "The Press'' that the money will be used to augment the church building fund, and that the new building will probably be discussed when the managers of the church meet in August. Miss Carter was an old residep* of the Waimate district. She lived with her brother and sister on a farm at Hook until 1918, and on the death of her brother went to live in Waimate. Her sister died about two years ago. Miss Carter was a staunch adherent of the Presbyterian Church, and took an interest in all its organisations. She was of a retiring disposition, and took no official positions in ihe church, but she always gave generously of her time and money.
