AMATEUR RACES. TWO FINISHES AT RANGIORA. Two races for amateur cyclists, both finishing at Rangiora, were held on Saturday afternoon. Tho lecontly-formed Ranpr.ora Amateur Cycling Club held its opening race and attracted 38 riders. The race was also the first coming under the jurisdiction of the newly-formed League of New Zealand Amateur Wheelmen. R.S.A. CLUB. Twenty-eight competitors faced the etarter in a race over a distanco of 30 mi!e3. The scratch men, S, Campbell, 0. It. Giles, and W. Christensen, made great headway over the early stages, and overlook the bunch immediately in front of them at Kaiapoi. H. L. Grant from this hunch proved a great assistance, putting in some very fast laps. The dead wind tried a few of tho youthful riders, and beyond Kaiapoi there were some solo riders. Turning west, at Woodend the epeel waß increased. S. Campbell'retired on reaching Rangiora. Giles and Christensen gradually collected all the other riders in, with the exception of A. Duncraft (T.'.mim and E. O'Ne.iH (Tminb Duncratt crossed the line two minutes 10 seconds ahead of Giles and beat O'Neill by a lew lengths. The placings were: A. A big field faced the starter for the. 20 mile open road race conducted by tho Mairehau Spoils Club at Mairehnu on Saturday. Tho scratch men, H. J. Crofts and L. Rither, wero conceding a start, of 10 minutes to P. Chew Lee, tho limit ridei ; their nearest attendants were h\ K. Lope and C. J. Arnst (2min). Ttie race was run four tiuiC3 round a five mile block, and at the end of the first lap P. Chew Leo btill held the lead, being one minute in front of J. Robertson ifimin). The scratch men gained two minutes 35 sreondj on tho limit riders during the lap. At halfway Robertson had joined Leo in tho lead, and they were '25 socoii'ls in front oi L. Hartigan (7min) and T. Darling ;7mm>. A. Johnston (Grain) and C. Voiur: passed 4.S seconds later, being 31 seconds in fiont of J. Hocking (Grain) and S. North (6minl, who had a lead of 35sec from K. Smither (4?,min), I). Swarston (l.'mi.i), R. Thomas (3min), D. Spiers (3mir.), K. Wilkie (!'.mini. A. Cle.meuce (3rain), and J. Peek il.'.min). The next bunch, consisting of G. Farmer Cimin), R. Sutherland ,3min), and L. Welsh (.'train) were one minute 'Jt seconds farther behind, and were followed 21 seconds later by Arnst and Pope, with the remaining scratch man, Pitber, riding one minute seven seconds behind the l£min men.
