MEMORIAL HALL. The Papanui Memorial Hall Management Committee met on Thursday evening, Mr C. L. August presiding and others present were Messrs A. Syme (secretary), E. H, Andrews, T. H. Butterfleld. F. T. Evans, W. G. Chapman, and J. Sturrock. In reply to a letter advising that the City Council had written off its portion of rates on the hall, and asking what it intended doing in regard' to its portion of the liability, the Waimairi County Council wrote that the letter was duly "received." Mr Syme said something would have have to be done to bring this matter to finality. The act definitely said the Waimairi Council was responsible for two-fifths of any deficiency, and 11 it was not prepared to abide by the act, it had no right to be represented on the committee. He asked' what the position was in regard to the proposed library extensions, and whether they were to be held up because of the attitude of the Waimairi Council. Mr W. G. Chapman said the council had not been approached in regard to the extensions. The Waimairi Council had met all its obligations in connexion With the hall The only matter disputed was the rates levied t>y the City Council. The Waimairi Council had taken up a definite stand on the rates question, ana' the City Council would have to test the case. After further discussion it was decided to forward the Waimairi Council's reply on to the Christchurch City Council, with a recommendation that steps should be taken to bring the matter to a conclusion. Mr Andrews reported that it had been agreed to carry out certain extensions to the library.
