NEW CYCLING BODY.

THE LEAGUE OK AMATEL'U WHEELMEN. A meeting of League, of New Zealand Amateur Wheelmen was held last evening. Mr J. Sturrock presided, and there were also presem, Messrs F. E. Pearl (secretary), H. o. Kilpatrick, W. V/hceler, W. Hayes, J. Quill, T. A. Grose, and P. L. Rouse. A letter from the New Zealand Cycling Federation was received intimating that the league had been granted affiliation. The chairman said that the alhhation was the iesult of five years agitation. It was the emancipation ol amateur cyclists from athletic control. Mr Kilpatrick, a former member oi the Poneke Club (Wellington), said that as one who had helped to form the New Zealand Union of Cvclists, Mr W. J. Walter had done a great service to cyclists by his action on the federation. About four and a half years ago the Manakau Club. Auckland, had started the movement to get away from control by the Amateur Athletic Association. The Port Nicholson Club, Wellington, joined the movement, and together they formed the union of cyclists. A compromise was reached with the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, but it had not worked satisfactorily, and the movement for self-control broke out again in the South Island. The thanks of all amaleur wheelmen were due to Mr Walter. A letter was received from Mr D. W. Greenfield, oi' the Otago Amateur Cycling Club, stating taat the appointment of Mr H. G.. Kilpatrick and Mr H. D. London as delegates to the federation would meet with the approval of Otago cyclists. It was unanimously decided to appoint Messrs London and Kilpatrick as delegates to the league. It was decided to ask bona fide cycling clubs to appoint delegates to form district centres. Mr Kilpatrick said that the federation should carry out the spirit of the Union Cycliste Internationale, and instead of disqualifying hostile organisations should pars a rule that every club should receive and accept entries from members of any other amateur cycling club. He understood that Poneke and other North Island clubs would support such a resolution coming from the federation. After a discussion it was decided to instruct the delegates to take steps to get the federation to move in this direction.
