PUBLIC EXECUTIONS IN IRAQ.
■ * CALCUTTA, July 26. The first year of Iraq's independence has been marked by a revival of the old spectacle of public executions, in the hope of stemming the flood of violent murders from which the community is suffering. The deterrent effect is doubtful, however, as thousands flock daily to watch the hangings, but appear in no way horrified.
