A GIFT TO THE SANATORIUM.

ILLUSTRATED PAPERS.

[VOLUMES BOUND BY RELIEF WORKERS. Appreciation of the gift of eight Volumes of the "Illustrated London News" and the "Field" for the last Sfour years was expressed at a meeting of the Sanatorium Service Society on Wednesday evening. The issues of these illustrated papers were collected by Mr H. G. Ell, and were bound in red morocco by unemployed book-binders engaged in relief work on the Summit Joad. There were present at the meeting Mr P. H. Harris (in the chair), the Rev. Dr. J. Kennedy, Canon A. Jf. Norris. Mesdames A. E. Cooper, K. A. Quartley, W. D. Johnston, H. A. Young, and. Mr R. A. Young {(secretary). The society is a purely voluntary /organisation, and is undenominational. It provides clothes and other comforts for many of the 187 patients at the sanatorium, and of the 32 children in the Fresh Air Home, some being in such poor circumstances that they are entirely dependent upon the society for clothing. In addition the society does what it can for the dependents of patients, and for former patients who are unable to work. During the last three years the society has assisted more than 300 patients and dependents. It was decided that the volumes of the "Illustrated London News" pnd the "Field" should be handed £ver to the sanatorium at the next concert held there, the chairman ♦expressing appreciation of the kindly thought of Mr Ell and his workmen. The volumes were beautifully bound, and would undoubt»edly bring a great deal of pleasure to the patients. Other donations received were a Sarge quantity of clothing material (from Mrs H. D. Andrews, £5 5s {from the Cashmere Lodge, and £1 Is from the Marlborough Hospital Board, which warmly commended the society for its work.
