ALLEGED THEFT OF UNION FUNDS.
ACCUSED ACQUITTED. U'rbsh A.ssoci.vno:; tklsgisam.) WELLINGTON, July 27. Without leaving their seats, the jury in the Supreme Court to-day found a verdict of not guilty against William Gunn, labourer, of Masterton, who was charged with the theft of £ls, the property of the Waingawa Freezing Workers' Union. Accused was discharged by Mr Justice Reed. The Crown Prosecutor said that accused was a member of the Waingawa Freezing Workers' Union, Masterton. He was elected delegate to the fellmongery department, for the purpose of obtaining members for the union. Gunn said that on February 2'i six books and three £5 notes fell from his hip pocket into a drain and disappeared. The evidence would show, said the prosecutor, that Gunn made no diligent attempt to recover the money. Subsequently five of the ticket books were found in the drain, but there was no trace of the £5 notes. After the Crown had concluded its case, Mr T. P. McCarthy submitted that there was no case to answer. The jury was invited by his Honour to express their opinion, and found prisoner not guilty.
