IRISH SWEEP. NEW ZEALAND WINNERS. Although not so successful as in the Cesarewitch sweep last year, New Zealand ticket-holders in the sweepstake organised by the Irish Hospitals Trust on the Derby, run at Epsom on May 31, won £7OO in cash prizes of £IOO. These seven were the only ones of a total of 4531 prize-winning tickets which came from subscribers in the Dominion. They are as follow:—AA3s9l, Mr J. Tolich, Te Awamutu; AC74779, "Jean and Grace," Ponsonby, Auckland; AJ35845, "Seagull," Sandringham, Auckland; AJ36166, "Dole," Wellington; AK38754, "The Last Round," Ashburton; AL35922, "Spellbinder," Westmere, Auckland; and CW85906, L. Mills, Ohura. Although seven prize-winning tickets were also sold in New Zealand for the Cesarewitch, the total prizemoney amounted to about £12,000 disregarding exchange advantages. Every corner of the world—from Palestine to Portugal, from Hong Kong to Hawaii—figured on the prize list. The bulk, of course, went to Britain, where, of the total prizes of £ 1,979.846, just £1,007,268 was allotted. The United States came a poor second with £159,000, and Ireland was third with £108,267. Good luck—or a gambling instinct —thrives in South Africa, where £94,120 was won, and Canada was scarcely less fortunate with £77,212. France (£50,910), Holland (£43,731), Dutch East Indies (£32,000), India (£16,389), Belgium (£15,850), the Malay States (£15,750), Switzerland (£7726), and the British West Indies (£2321) were all represented. Of the 1900 prizes of £IOO each, Britain took 1310, the United States 163, Ireland 123, Canada 58, South Africa 55, France 47, India 37, and Holland 29. Other tickets went to China, the Channel Islands, Syria, Honolulu, Egypt, Arabia, Mauritius, Penang, Western Australia, Haiti, Burma, and the Aleutian Islands. j
