STABILITY OF STERLING.
POUND NOT LINKED TO FRANC. IBSmsa OFFICIAL SVIKELESB.J RUGBY, July 25.
In a Parliamentary answer, Major L. Hore-Belisha (Financial Secretary to the Treasury) to-day stated that there was no truth in the suggestion that sterling was tied to the franc. The Government s policy was to prevent frequent • and wide fluctuaions in exchange, which were due purely to speculative influences. No inference could be drawn from the fact that the fluctuations in the gold value of sterling were not very wide at this particular time. He added that there was no reason to suppose that the Dominion Governments and the governments of the countries in the sterling area [saw any objection to this policy.
