JAPANESE TEXTILE COMPETITION.

INDUSTRIAL CONJ EREN CE LIKELY. ISiUTAIN AND INDIA TO BE REPRESENTED. Cnu: ri.-nt otrii'UL v. 1 RUGBY, July 25. In a statement about the possible convening of a conference between British and Japanese industrialists on the subject of Japanese trade competition, Dr. E. Leslie Burgin (Parliamentary Secretary for Trade) said a reply was sent ' July 20 to a recent Japanese note on the subject. In that note the Japanese Government indicated that the Japanese interests concerned had agreed, subject to certain limitations which had since been the subject of an informal discussion, to the proposed meetings between the industries so far as they related to cotton textiles. The proposal under consideration was that there should be a tripartite discussion in India shortly between representatives of the cotton textiles industries of Lancashire, India, and Japan, covering the whole field of all classes of textiles in which these countries were interested. These discussions would relate to the Indian market and the British and Colonial markets in which India was interested. The proposal was made on the understanding that the discussions in India would be followed immediately by discussions in Great Britain about other textile markets. L - tween the industrial representatives of Great Britain and Japan. The British Government sincerely hoped that Japan would be able to accept this proposal, and that a satisfactory agreement would be reached.
