RADIO CONCERT.
TO AID COMBINED ORPHANAGES.
Widespread interest is being taken in the radio concert to be broadcast from Station 3YA next Wednesday, in aid of the bread bill of the Anglican, Presbyterian, and Methodist orphanages. Many Christchurch women are engaged this week in a house-to-house canvass of radio listeners with a view to organising as many "evenintf' as possible on the occasion of the concert. Reports from the country districts also indicate that the radio evening idea is being received enthusiastically in all paits of Canterbury. The programme to be broadcast is an outstanding one. All the contributing artists are giving their services voluntarily. The programme includes vocal items by the following wellknown artists: —Misses Frances Hamerton and Vivienne Wilkinson, Messrs Rex Harrison and Hubert Carter, Professor Shelley will give a humorous dramatic selection; Mr H. McD. Vincent a humorous elocutionary recital, and there will also be a cornet solo by Mr F. A. Fox. An important part of the programme will be contributed by the Cathedral Choir, and their items will include unison songs, shanties, part-songs, and solos. Another popular item will be community singing for 20 minutes, conducted by Mr Ajan Brown and Dr. A'Court. Members of Knox Choir and the Optimists' Club will assist with the community > *slpe<§al envelopes for the collection, which is to be taken up in each home where a party is organised, are being distributed by the women's committees. Additional envelopes and programmes may be obtained from the honorary secretary (Mr A. G. S. Gibbs), Church House, Cashel street.
