TEMPERAMENTAL DISPOSITION OF ARTIST.

.MOTOR LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR LIFE. A solicitor who had pleaded guilty at Torquay on behalf of an artist who was charged with driving a motor-car while under the influence of drink made the unusual application that his client's driving license should be suspended for life (states the London "Daily Mail"). The solicitor, Mr M. J- McGahey, appeared for Rupert Roger Bland, of Spaniards road, Hampstead, who, he said, was an artist of considerable repute. Mr McGahey said that like all artists Bland suffered from a temperamental disposition, and a London specialist had stated that he also suffered from a grave mental disorder and was likely to get into trouble with the police again. His brain was of such a nature that the slightest amount of intoxicant affected it. "I invite you," said Mr McGahey, to the magistrates, "to order that as long as Bland lives he shall never drive a car again. If you follow this course the ends of justice will have been met. and you will have made things safe for the public and for him." The Bench, after a private consultation with the mental specialist, suspended the license for life and imposed a fine of £lO.
