CONCRETE VTOKKEKS' j DISPUTE. | The wages payable to concrete pipeworkers were the subject of a dispute heard at the Conciliation Council yesterday morning between the Hume Pipe Company < Aust.), Ltd., and the Canterbury General Labourers' | Union, Christchureh. No agreement could be reached, and an application : will be made on .August 6 tor Ihe present award to cease to exist on and , after September G. Mr S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commissioner, presided, and the assessors , were Messrs E. A. Ockendcn and D. ; I. Macdonald (for the employers), and j H. Worrall and J. T. W. Cole (for the j employees). j The minimum rate ol Is Gd an hour | was set out in the employers' proposal, and an agreement could not be arived at on the wages issue. A motion by tho assessors for the em- . ployers to have the question of wages ! referred to the Arbitration Court lor ; settlement was lost. The employers asked that a minimum rate of Is fid ; an hour be paid to moulders, mixers. . and junction-fitters, and .Is 'id an hour for all other workers.
