ENGINEERING SOCIETY'S DEBATE. The subject for discussion by the members of the Canterbury College Engineering Society at its annual student evening, held on Saturday night, was "Life in a New Zealand city as opposed to life on a back country farm or station." The object of the evening was to give members of the society practice in public speaking, each speaker being allowed five minutes in which to express his views. The prize for the best speech was awarded to Ivlr E. H. Carew, Mr O. Lightband being placed second. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mr A. G. Townsend and Mr D. M. Patterson.
