The mountain ranges shown in the background extend from the Rangitata Gorge area (at left) to the Rakaia Gorge, shown on the extreme right of the photograph. A spur of the Port Hills above Tat Tapu, is shown in the foreground (at left), and in the middle distance a white line indicates the Dunedin-Christchurch railway line. The first infra-red photograph taken in Christchurch appeared in "The Press" last Thursday.
