METHVEN. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Methven Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Monday. Present: Messrs H. J. Freeman (in the chair), A. Geddes, H. Green, Jas. Carr, A. F. Marr, G. Geddes, S. H. Anderson, R. G. M. Dart. W. F. Reynolds, G. Callaghan, W. C. Lowery, R. D. Millar, S. Campbell, R. J. Low, S. Hampton, J. Ruddenklau, C. H. Watson, S. G. Lemon, A. Goodwin, A. McLeod, and W. S. Jones. The Canterbury Agricultural and | Pastoral Association wrote advising | that the following dates had been fixed for 1933-34:—Metropolitan show, November 9 and 10; ram fair, March 22 and 23. The Canterbury Stock Auctioneers Association forwarded a list of ram and ewe fairs. The Methven ewe fair had been set down for March 16. The Clydesdale Horse Society advised that Messrs Alex Geddes and H. Peach had been added to the list of judges. It was decided to support the nomination of Mr James Carr for the vacancy on the Meat Producers' Board. Mr Callaghan advised that the Mount Somers Lime Company wished to offer a donation of lime for a prize. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks, and also a schedule to show the number of competitors in the field roots competition. Mr R. J. Low said that March 16 had been selected for the Methven ewe fair, but no provision had been made for a ram fair. He mentioned the trouble that had taken place last year when a dual fair had been held, and there was already a motion on the books that the association run a separate ram fair on similar lines to other centres. It was decided to advise the Canterbury Stock Auctioneers of the arrangements, and Messrs Campion, Low, Marr, and Lemon were appointed a sub-committee to meet the auctioneers' representatives to arrange a suitable date for the ram fair. Mr Low moved, and it was carried: "That the association's accounts be closed on May 31, and that the annual meeting of members be held on the second Monday in July." It was decided to send a letter to Mr W. C. Spray, expressing a hope for a speedy recovery from his illness.

MAYFIELD. The final meeting for the year of the Mayfield Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Monday. Present: Messrs G. B. Murdoch (president), G. Johnston, J. Blair, J. H. Patterson, A. D. Morrison, H. C. Barton, E. C. D. Withell, D. J. Morrow, L. R. Harrison, R. J. Mulligan, A. V, Barrett, W. J. Early, G. N. Harrison, A. H. Guiney, and D. R. Howden. The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association intimated that it had interviewed the North Canterbury Stock Auctioneers on behalf of the association, and had succeeded in getting the date of next year's ram and ewe fair fixed for March 22 and 23. The North Canterbury Stock Auctioneers also wrote advising the committr"* of the dates of the principal fairs throughout Canterbury. The annual meeting of members was then held.

The president's report stated that although the association had a small adverse balance for the year, largely due to the present difficult times, members' subscriptions and donations showed an increase. He congratulated the associr'ion on its recent show and the re* suits of the year's work, and expressed a hope that there would soon be signs

of improvement in the world's markets. The balance-sheet, showing receipts £478 6s, and expenditure of £504 lis 9d, was adopted. The surplus of assets over liabilities was set down at £lO2l 10s lid.

Mr G. Johnston, on taking the chair, presented the retiring president with a bound copy of the 1932-33 catalogue of pvHblts. Mr E. Loftus was re-elected auditor. The following members were added to the committee to make up the required number:—Messrs G. N. Harrison, W Prouting, R. Austin, and F. Morrow, jurt. An application from Mr W. K. Dellow for the use of the room was granted. The following sub-committee was set up to endeavour to procure the services of a draught stallion for the coming season:—Messrs J. Blair, J. A. Fleming, R. J. Mulligan, D. J. Morrow, and A. V. Barrett.
