LYTTELTON NEWS.
—_♦ BILLIARDS. The Lyttelton Club's weekly Hying fifty billiards tournament on Monday night was won by A. Albcrtson, who defeated J. Rudd in the final game. The Marine Drive. It is expected that the new marine drive between Teddington and Purau will be metalled and opened for traffic in about two months' time. The Mount Herbert County Council has already begun the work of metalling the existing road between Rapaki and Governor's Bay, and as soon as this is completed work will be started on the new road. Since it was formed the road has deteriorated to a certain extent, and portions will have to be reformed, and culverts repaired. The road between Diamond Harbour and Purau will be the last to be metalled. The county council was recently authorised to raise a loan of £ISOO for (lie work. The Lyttelton Borough Council has already metalled the portion of the road running through Ihe Diamond Harbour Estate, and at the meeting of that council on Monday night the chairman of the estates committee, Cr. A. G. Sinclair, spoke of the splendid job the Lyttelton relief workers had made of the road, the metal for which had all been broken by hand. The marine drive, when it is completed, will provide an excellent motor highway, tar-sealed from Christchurch, through Sumner and Lyttelton to Rapaki, and well graded and metalled from Rapaki, through Governor's Bay, Allandale, Teddington, Charteris Bay. Church Bay, and Diamond Harbour to Purau. It is expected that the opening of the road will cause a good demand for sections not only at Diamond I Harbour, but also at. the other bays [through which the road passes. Already private land at Church Bay is being sub-divided into building secI tions, and the sale of sections in other I bays is reported. Harbour Light Theatre. C. J. Dennis's "The Sentimental Bloke," an Australian production, starring Cecil Scott and Ray Fisher, will be screened at the Harbour Light Theatre to-night, to-mor-row, and on Friday. All the author's well-known characters appear to advantage on trie screen and present a delightful entertainment. There is an especially attractive supporting programme, including Ray and Moon. Keith Desmond, the Sundowners' Quartet, Minnie Love, and a musical ballet, "A Perfect S?re:m>," presenting George Wallace, will also be shown.
