ORANGE LODGE.

JULY CELEBRATIONS. CHURCH PARADE YESTERDAY. About 300 members of District Lodge No. 5, Loyal Orange Institution, beside several representatives from the Grand Lodge, attended a special church service, held as part of the July celebrations of the order, in the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church yesterday afternoon. The procession through the streets, which is usually a prominent feature of the celebrations, was abandoned because of the rain, members assembling at the church. The parade was led by District Master Wor. Bro. F. R Legge, who was accompanied by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), the town clerk 'Mr J. S. Neville), and the following officers of Grand, Lodge: Past Grand Master Wor. Bro. J. Middleton; Grand Foreman of committee, Wor. Bro. J. J. Hollinger; Grand Senior Deacon, Wor. Bro. N. Gordon, and Grand Inner Guard, Wor. Bro. J. Knighton. Addressing the members of the lodge, the Rev. L. A. North, who conducted the service, assisted by the Rev. L. A. Day, drew a parallel between the ideals which inspired the Orange institution and those which inspired the Good Samaritan in the New Testament story. * "We would do well to observe that the Good Samaritan's kindness was not hindered by any prejudices," said Mr North. "The injured man was an entire stranger and, what was more, a Jew; but these things did not influence the Samaritan. There at his feet lay a fellow man, gravely wounded and in sore need; and all other things were forgotten. There -was no thought of the national feud or of the differences of religious outlook. These things were banished by the response of love and mercy to another's needs. Nationality was swallowed up by humanity and sectarianism was put to flight by true religion.'' Such a state of affairs, said Mr Norbh, was inevitable wherever real love inspired men. All benevolence and all charity were at fault if they were Influenced by such things as another's nationality, or social standing, or religious denomination, or moral character. The lodge will continue its celebrations on Tuesday evening when a ball will be held in the Caledonian Hall
