WIDENING DIFFICULT BEND.

•f WORK ON RIVER ROAD, RICHMOND. A difficult bend in River road, Rich- '/ ttond, opposite the end of Linwood avenue, is being widened and improved by relief workers employed by the City Council. On a narrow road ■ this bend has been a dangerous one and the improvement is welcomed by v- residents and motorists who pass [•*' there. . . '• There are in all 17 men engaged in • the work. It has been by no means A an easy task so far, for there were •/; several big poplars and an even bigger bluegum to be felled before the ' Widening could be advanced very far. A The men began at the north corner i V Of Glade avenue and have now %■■. worked round to a point directly op!l Posite the end of Linwood avenue. InA eluded in the work is the widening of %• , the corner of Glade avenue and River A:- road—a corner which before was a $ Particularly dangerous one. River road will be made 20 feet ■}&. 'Wider on the bend, but it has not yet £v been decided whether the widening s.' Will be continued further towards A Stanmore road or Swann's road. The vA road is a long, winding, narrow one V on the north side of the river all the A- way from the Fitzgerald avenue s;: Bridge to the boulevard.
