AUCKLAND'S MILK TRADE.
* REPORT OF INVESTIGATING COMMITTEE. U'fiFoS \SSOCIXTIOK Tm.EGRAM ) AUCKLAND, July 3. The committee of investigation into the milk trade presented its report to the Mayor "(Mr G. W. Hutchison) today. The committee was unanimously of the view that the industry was in urgent need of reorganisation, which could be done only by means of a properly-constituted milk council, which must have some statutory authority. The report says, inter alia: "The present conditions of trade are chaotic and there is extreme danger that the quality of the supply will deteriorate and quantity be curtailed. Producers are living on capital or credit, although they work 80 or 90 hours weekly. The committee feels that the public conscience must be against the continuation of such conditions. Present plants for distribution are more tiian adequate, but if a milk council is set up a considerable saving in handling, delivery, and overhead costs could be made."
