Unless anything unforeseen happens in the meantime the StratfordMain Trunk railway should be opened for passenger traffic some time in August or at the latest during the first week in September. Mr P. Keller, Public Works engineer in charge on the Stratford section of the line, informed a "Taranaki Herald" reporter that there were still minor works to be done on tunnels and culverts, the final topping up of the ballast on certain sections, and general cleaning up. None of the work, however, was of any magnitude, but in the aggregate took a certain amount of time. All should be finished early in August. Mr Keller said he understood from conversations with the engineers at the eastern end of the line that the position was somewhat similar there, and that the time their work will finished will correspond wiifo this end.
