♦ The Hon. J. Bitchener, Minister for Public Works, was accorded a civic reception at Nelson yesterday. He visited the primary schools and colleges. Deputations on local mat* ters met him in the afternoon. He left for Wellington in the evening.— Press Association. Mr Alan Grant (Waimate) is registered at Warner's Hotel. Mr C. Sander (Wellington) is a guest at the United Service Hotel. Mr A. Dee (Nelson) is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Dr. Blunden, of the staff of the Dunedin Hospital, passed through Chrlstchurch from Waikari yesterday, on his way back to Dunedin. Mr F. E. McNamara, of the Oamarti Post Office staff, has been transferred to the mail-room branch in the Dunedin Post Office. After having held the position of town clerk of Temuka for exactly three months, Mr L. Durey, who was formerly assistant clerk of the Riccafton borough, has resigned. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of Mr Elijah Harper was passed at a meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Filj grims' Association last evening. The committee of the Canterbury Pilgrims' Association decided last evening to send a letter of sympathy to the secretary, Mr G. W. Hungerford, who is indisposed. The Rev. J. R. Nelson, minister in charge of the Kaponga Methodist Church, has notified his circuit officials of his intention to seek a transfer at the next annual confer* ence of the church. Following a notification that htt was under transfer to Wellington, Sergeant McCarthy, of the Central Police Station, Dunedin, hag now received advice that the transfer hai been cancelled and that he is to re* main in Dunedin in the meantime. Mr G. F. Bothamley, at present second clerk assistant and reader Of bills on the House of Representatives staff, has been appointed first clerk assistant in succession to Mr W. I. Dasent, retired. Mr H. N. Dollimore, present record clerk, is promoted to second clerk assistant.— Press Association. Mr O. Lawsoh, of Cape Town, who is staying at the Clarendon Hotel, has been touring New Zealand for the last six months •on behilf of his firm, which electrical apparatus in Cape To*wn. He wili spend about six weeks in Christ' church before travelling south, and will leave New Zealand for South Africa in November. Mr E. W. Travers, who for some years has been the Waimate repre- 1 sentative for the New Zealand Loari and Mercantile Agency Company! has been appointed to the position of manager of the Dominion Lifs Assurance Office, Christchurch.
