GISBORNE'S ISOLATION.

♦ TRANSPORT APPEAL BOARD MEMBER'S OPINION. (P11E33 ASSOCIATION TSLEUK ill.) GISBORNE, July An outsDoken view on the disability of Gisborne in respect of means of communication was expressed to-day by Mr Thomas Jordan, Mayor of Masterton, and a member of the Transport Appeal Board, now sitting hero. Mr Jordan said he thought the 100 square miles of rich flat land outside Gisborne should be turned into dallying land. He noticed that much of it was still carrying sheep. Such a rich district should not be iso ated as it was, and it was deplorable that it should have to remain so. He did not wisli to be drawn into a controversy regarding a railway or other means of transport, but the district was deserving of a better means of communication than it had at presen:. "We are spending £4,000,000 per annum on unemployment relief " added Mr Jordan, "and there is little return from this. Some of this money might with advantage be employed m reducing Gisborne's isolation.
