The body of Herr Eric Hanussen, the famous Jewish clairvoy-j ant and water-diviner, ... who has been missing since March 23, was found by a cyclist j near Berlin. The body was riddled I with bullets. Herr Hanussen was an enthusiastic Nazi and prophesied Herr Hitler's accession to power in 1929, but the Nazis resented his enthusiasm. Detachments of storm troops raided his house and captured him, and he was never seen alive again. CIVIL SERVICE CLOSED TO JEWS. " CLEANSING OPERATIONS." BERLIN, April 9. New regulations will exclude nearly all Jews from the Civil Service. Only a few of those who served in the trenches or were in the service before 1914 will be allowed to remain. The Cabinet has approved of the investigation of the careers of all civil servants who have entered the service since the founding of the Republic. It is expected that this will be followed by further "cleansing operations." RELATIONS WITH SOVIET. MOSCOW, April 9. The German Ambassador, Dr. Herbert von Dirksen, informed M. Litvinoff (Commissar for Foreign Affairs) that Germany would not hinder Soviet economic organisations. He hoped they would discontinue their connexions with German Communists. M. Litvinoff denied any such connexion, and disclaimed any responsibility for private political activities. GERMANY AND JAPAN. SIMILARITY OF POSITIONS. BERLIN, April 9. The new Japanese Ambassador, Mr Nagai, emphasises the surprising similarity in character and world outlook of the Japanese and Germans, which is expressed in their simultaneous fight for a world position. He added that no nation had understood the Nationalist revolution better than the Japanese.

DEMONSTRATION AGAINST HITLER. LEFT WING PARADE IN LONDON. LONDON, April 9. Girls dressed in shorts and red blouses, shouting songs and slogans and carrying grotesque effigies of Hitler and hundreds of red banners, took part in a demonstration in Trafalgar square by Communists, Independent Labour members, and other members of the Left Wing. Police reinforcements marshalled the contingents from all over London. Mr Tom Mann and Mr Wal Hannington, and also Jews who were recent arrivals from Germany, denounced the Hitler regime, imperialism, and attacks on the Soviet. APPEAL TO JEWS IN THE EMPIRE. « JUDEA MUST HIT BACK." LONDON, April 9. Mr J. Neville Laski, K.C., presiding at a meeting of the Jewish Board of Deputies, emphasised the disappointment felt at the intensification of anti-Semitism in Germany, and announced the appointment of many committees, including a refugee reception committee, with resources of £IO,OOO. Mr B. L. Q. Henriques, M.A. (warden of the Bemhard Baron St. George's Jewish Settlement) announced that Judea must hit back in Germany, and at least go down fighting. It was resolved to ask Jews throughout the Empire to do their utmost to induce Germany to discontinue anti-Jewish discrimination.

BOYCOTT NOTICES IN LONDON. (Received April 10, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 10. The police requested Jewish traders in the East End to remove German boycott notices, on the ground that they were liable to caur? breaches of the peace. Most of the traders complied, but others protested to Scotland Yard, which disclaimed knowledge of the action. GERMAN CONSULATE ATTACKED. ACTION OF JEWS IN POLAND. (Received April 10, 11.30 p.m.) WARSAW, April 10. An organisation of young Jews in Lodz wrecked the offices of the German newspaper "Freiepress" and smashed the windows of the German Consulate.
