TRAFFIC IN BEALEY AVENUE.
IMPROVING FACILITIES. A scheme for the improvement of traffic facilities at the intersection of Bealey avenue and Park terrace was adopted by the Christchurch City Council last night on the recommendation of the Works Committee. The chief items of the scheme are as follows: (a) The construction and kerbing of borders Bft wide, parallel to the tram track from a point just west of the commencement of the double tram track near the Carlton Hotel to approximately the line of the east kerb of Park terrace.
(b) The construction of a round safety zone, 9ft in diameter on a point near the centre of the intersection. The centre lines of these streets do not meet at the one point, and the place selected is one that will be of most help to traffic and pedestrians. (c) The existing grass plot to be kerbed, and made slightly smaller. The north boundary line of the plot will be brought back about 6ft, and an asphalt path constructed along the kerb. The light on this plot will be removed to the safety zone. The committee reported that the labour for the work could be provided by relief workers. In view of the fact that the alterations would provide improved facilities for traffic in a spot where they were much needed, and would also enhance the general appearance of the locality, arrangements had been made for the work to be put in hand immediately, i The report was adopted.
