Several contemporary composers fcave set themselves the task of writi«if Passion music, which, while preserving the devotional style which is both appropriate and traditional, should at the same time avoid the %t«k emotionalism which tended to dominate Church music in the fast two (fenerations. Among these efforts i'ir Arthur SonicrvcH'a oratorio entitled "The Passion ot Christ" ip conspicuously successful. It will be given *»y the choir of St. Luke's Church at * o'clock this evening under the direction of Mr ClirTe Stanford, Mus.Bac.
