"At such a time as the Present it stems out of place«*«*£££ to travel 600 miles to a conference at Rotorua,' said Cr. G. T {*«er at the meeting of the Chnswnurcn City Council last evening, cussion of a report concerning the ?S Municipal Conference. He added that he thought the work could have been better done m Wellington, where Ministers of the Crown were available. Not 5 per cent, of the remits were ever dealt with, and it seemed to him there was a considerable waste of money involved in sending delegates so far. Crs. J. W. Beanland and E. H. Andrews spoke of the earnestness of the delegates and the importance of the work done, and Cr. M. E. Lyons added that there had been "no junketing." The conference had been held at Rotorua because that town had been next on the list, and it had been postponed for three years. Both the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) and Cr. E. R. McCombs paid a tribute to the work done at the conference, which, they said, was of great importance to every local body. The discussion closed with a remark by Cr. E. Parlane: "It seems to me some councillors are looking forward to forming an old boys' association."
