TRAMWAY BOARD.

HARRINGTON STREET STOP. SPREYDON BURGESSES SUGGEST CHANGE OF NAME. The Christchurch Tramway Board met yesterday, when there were present Mr G. T. Booth (in the chair), Mrs Elizabeth R. McCombs, Messrs W. Hayward, A. A. McLachlan, D. Sykes, H. Pearce, W. J. Walter, and E. H. Andrews. Accounts totalling £45,937 14s were passed for payment. The report of the Works and Traffic Committee was adopted. It stated that a deputation from the Spreydon Burgeses' Association had been received, pointing out that the destination of Barrington street on the Cashmere Hills cars frequently resulted in people taking that car when they intended to take the Spreydon car, Barrington street being at the end of that route. The deputation had suggested that the Barrington street, Cashmere sign should be altered to "Karitane," and the No. 14 Spreydon sign should be altered to "Spreydon Central" or "Barrington Park." The matter had been referred to a sub-committee for consideration. In respect of the Templeton bus service, it was reported that the application of the Works and Traffic Committee to convert to a feeder service had been granted by the Central Licensing Authority. The Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) wrote thanking the board for its assistance in the recent Distress Fund appeal. The United Burgesses' Association wrote asking that a deputation be received, with a~ view to co-operation in getting Travis road and Francis street declared secondary highways. Mr Hayward said the suggestion would have carried a great deal more weight if it had come from the New Brighton Borough Council and the Waimairi County Council. The general manager of the tramways (Mr Frank Thompson) said the indications were that the agitation started some years ago by the Waimairi County Council and the board was beginning to bear fruit at last in the minds of some p'ublic officials. On the motion of Mr Walter, it was decided to refer the letter of the Burgesses' Association to the Works and Traffic Committee.
