Miss L. H. Lean (Cambridge terrace) is leaving to-day for a visit to the Franz Josef Glacier. Mr and Mrs James Morrison (Rolleston avenue) have left for a few weeks' holiday visit to Sumner. Miss Branda Guthrie, who arrived in Christchurch a few weeks ago from Britain, has been visiting the Franz Josef Glacier, and is now staying at the Marine Hotel, Sumner. Mrs G. Veal (Government House, Wellington) arrived in Christchurch yesterday to visit Miss Olive Mcllraith, St. Elmo flats. Miss Webster and her niece, Miss M. Oxley (Fcndalton) will leave nest week for a visit to the Franz Josef Glacier. Mrs W. Minson (Merivale) will leave early next month for a visit to England. Miss Jean Newton (The Willows, Athburton) is visiting Gisborne, where she will be the guest of Miss Jean Hegarty and afterwards of Miss Muriel Barker. Mr and Mrs Wesley Hayes ("Centrewood," Waimate) are staying at tho United Service Hotel. The engagement is announced of Patricia Mary, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Holderness, of Hastings, Havvke's • Bay, to Brian Leslie, seoond son of the Rev. Canon Arthur Williams and Mrs Williams, of Pukehou, Hawke's Bay. Mrs Walter Macfarlane ('•Kaiwarn." North Canterbury) is visiting her daughter in South Canterbury. Miss M. O. Stoddart (Cashmere Hills) will leave on Saturday for a short visit to Otira. Mrs Levy 'South Africa) is revisiting Now Zealand, and is at present the guest of Miss V. Wilson, ' 'Khartoum," Cashmere Hills. Before returning to her home at Kloof, Durban, in Natal, she will visit Milford Sound, Rotorua, and Waitomo Caves. Mrs F. M. Dennehy and her two sons (Greymouth), who have been Emending two months in Sydney, returned to Wellington by the Monowai on Tuesday. Mrs William Grummitt fMarton) is arriving from the north this month to visit her mother, Mts Thomas, Ashburton, Dr. Helen Simpson, -who recently resigned her position as assistant lecturer in English at Canterbury College, intends leaving for England next month. Mrs Percy Morse and family (Waiau) are spending a holiday at North New Brighton. Professor and Mrs P. H. Powell (Fen- j dalton) have returned from a visit to Timaru. Mr and Mrs C. -X. Ha3lain have left for their new home in lnvercargill. Miss Joan Haslam accompanied them as far as Dunedin. Interesting visitors expected to arrive in Christchurch this year will include Miss Yan Aseh Yan Wyck, president of the World's Young Women's Christian Association, who is coming to the Dominion from Holland, and is expected in Christchurch in August. She will ho accompanied by Miss Charlotte Niveu, world's general secretary of the Association. A pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs Collister, Kaiapoi, to celebrate tho coming of age of their son Eonald. Tho evening was spent in music, dancing, and games.
