BLAZE IN HAGLEY PARK.
A grass fire swept over about three acres in South Haglcy Park about 3.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The blaze was fanned by a nortli-casterly wind and travelled in the® direction of the Addington Saleyards, where a sale was in progress;', later veering towards the south-westerly corner of-the park. Mem - bers of the firm to which the grazing rights of the part are let assisted" by a small number of volunteers, kept the flames in • check' until the arrival of the Ceutrul Tire Brigade. The fire then \ soon extinguished. But for the prompt manner in which the flames were' fought it seemed probable that the, tire iv.ould have assumed serious proportions.'..
