INVASION OF RATS.

TO THE EDITOR Of TUB FRIBS Sir,—The lady who asks in "The Press" to-day about rats, I advise to get two or three cats and feed them but once a day and then sparingly. Eats arc clever, and learn to avoid traps,, but a hungry cat—Yours, etc., E.C. February S, 1933. TO THE EDITOR Of TUB TRESS. Sir,—l might* tell "Housewife" at Loburn how to catch rats. Fill a barrel half-full of chaff. Feed the rats for a few days with scraps on top of the chaff, making an easy way in and out over tho top of tho barrel, then remove the way out one night.—Yours, etc., P.T. February 8, 1033. [Another correspondent suggests mixing equal portions of plaster of Paris and dripping and leaving the mixture where the rate can get it.—Ed. "The Press."] THE EARWIG PEST. TO THR EDITOR OT Til* I'JIJEJS Sir,—Y'ou recently reported the fruit growers of Central Otago to be unhappy because of swarms of earwigs in their orchards. Will you let me say that fowls turned into the orchard in the morning and turned out at night would quickly end the nuisance. They prefer the earwig to any other food and they scratch up the nests, which are just beneath the surface of the soil.—Yours, etc., EXPERTO CREDE. February 8, 1933.
