EXAMINATION RESULTS.

-■-■■■■♦" - TECHNICAL COLLEGE PASSES. .. i ■ A RECORD IN ACCOUNTANCY. Satisfactory, examination results were reported by the principal of the Christchurch Technical College (Dr. D, E. Hansen) at last evening's meeting p£ . the Board of Governors. The total of 42 passes by accountancy students in sections of their diploma was a record for the college, he said, and indicated a very high percentage of passes. Last year the total had been only 32. The candidates for the Chamber of Commerce examinations in shorthand, type-writing, and book-keeping had also been very successful, the principal remarked. ..,-." "In the University entrance (matriculation), and engineering' preliminary examinations," said Dr. Hansen, "we had 30 passes from the day school and .12 from the evening school, also nine passes from the latter for the accountants' preliminary examination. This is well over 50 per cent, from the day school, and about 50 per cent, in the evening school, which must be regarded as very satisfactory. 201 Senior Free Places. "In the senior free place examinations we had 201 passes from 259 day,! school candidates. The number passed by the Department was about as high as we would have passed ourselves, though our estimates as to which candidates should pass and which should fail did not always correspond with the Department's. In addition to the 201 passes, a. number of pupils will have their junior free places extended on account of their being very young^ "In the evening, school 125 students were awarded senior free places. These were given, on the recommendation of the school." .The list of passes .was as follows: . Accountancy, 42; University entrance and kindred examinations, 51. Chamber of Commerce Examinations —Speed shorthand, 8; typewriting, 16; handwriting, 1; book-keeping, 5. Senior Free Places —Technical High School, 201; evening school, 125. . New Enrolments. "Enrolments of new pupils for the Technical High School have Come >n well," continued Dr. Hansen, "and we have now.taken 435, which is 29 more than on the corresponding. day last vear. Las'; year's numbers were then the highest in the history of the school. This year the proportion of girls _ is higher than it was last'year, there being a total of 259 nev boys and 176 new girls: The classes arranged from them will be much the same as last year, but there has been a slight increase id the number of commercial' students. On ■the girls' side we have still twice as ■ meny girls in the home science course as in the commercial."
