Tiie Hokitika Croquet Club held a successful flower show on Wednesday, when there w»» a good entry of first - class flowers. The points prize for the Yarrall Cup was iron by Mm F. Shalierass (Grevmonth), who secured a number of places which gave 56 point*, making her an easy winner. Dairy Board. An interesting address on the functions of the Xew Zealand Dairy Board was given on Wednesday evening at Crc-aads.it, where a largo number of farmers were present. Mr T. C. 'Brain gave a resume of what the Board had done, and spoke of the advance made in dairying in New Zealand daring the last 40 or 50 years. He maintained that the increase in tie exchange rate between Xew Zealand and London would prove of materia! aid to farmer*. He received a hearty vote of thanks for his address. Brian Bom Dredge. The dredge being built for the Brian -Bora Gold Dredging Company was completed on Wednesday. Some trouble was ejcperieijced in adjusting the buckets, owing to their being insufficient power. The dredge win be ready to begin as scon as some minor adjustments have been made. The heavy rains which have fallen have filled the Cobden Town Board.

The Cobden Town Board met on Wednesday evening, the chairman, Mr A. H. McKanc, presiding. Tho Cobden Fire Brigade waited on the Board and asked that the Board assist the brigade by having the water sumps put in order. The speakers pointed out that the oply means of extineuishing fires was by water held m these iumps, and that without water the bniradc was useless in case of fire. The brigade ba' made an inspection of the sumps and found several of them overfrown with blackberry and weeds. It was arranged that the Bodrd Fire Eouipment Committee make a tour of inspection and have the requirements carried out promptly.
