Air T). H. Dodd, who has six children and earns 50s a week, living on one of the numerous housing estates in Birmingham, has a garden which is computed to be worth £OOO. In actual cash the garden has hardly cost the owner a penny. By a systematic process of cultivation and exchange, Mr Dodd has obtained everything that he desired to turn his little plot at the back of his home into the most beautiful retreat in Birmingham. Included in his garden are an old water pump, giving an air of rusticity; two miniature waterfalls, and a pigeon cote. Mr Dodd is not alone in his cultivation of Nature. Owing to a scheme promoted by the corporation every occupier of a council House takes a great interest in the garden.
