SITE FOR NEW RADIO STATION.

# I I INVESTIGATIONS BEGUN. Investigations to determine the site on Banks Peninsula for the now Christchurch broadcasting station as recommended by the Radio Coverage Coinmission have been commenced by the 3YA staff of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board. Tt is anticipated that the station will be in operation before the end of the year. Although tho station is awaiting the delivery "of field measurement equipment from England, experiments are being carried out with a useful set built out of various spare pieces of material. Preliminary tests have.boon made with the present station, so that a basis ol comparison may be obtained. A portable transmitting set has been brought from Australia, and this win be used in testing the Banks Peninsula area, where various points have to be considered from the aspect of suitability for broadcasting and building alike. The Investigations will take some weeks after the necessary apparatus has been assembled, and building will be going on during the winter months, i If tho building could be done during the present summer months the station would undoubtedly be in operation sooner, because bad weather during the winter will probably cause the temporary suspension of work. Tt was recommended by the Radio Coverage Commission in its report that before the existing 3YA plan was removed to a'new situation it should be modernised as far as possible.
