MEASUREMENT OF BATHING COSTUMES.
TO THK EDITOR OH THE IJHSSS. Sir, —As a law-abiding being I have no quarrel with the Sumner and New Brighton Councils, who have decided the measurements of the regulation bathing costume, but I do think they are thoughtless to wait until December to tnrust such a by-law on the unfortunate public, most of whom, purchased their costumes weeks ago. When I bought mine, which exposes eleven instead of nine inches of my back I asked at the shop, if apropos of recent newspaper controversy, they had made enquiries, and I was assured that my costume and the many more revealing ones they had sold, would be permitted o"h our beaches —so when I disport myself on the sands at Sumner or New Brighton, I trust that no beach inspector wearing an expression of conscious rectitude —and, of course, his regulation bathing suit—will be rash enough to place a detaining hand on my shoulder —for I shall certainly go mad and bite hiai. —\ours, etc., SUN WORSHIPPER. December 20th, 1932.
