It is peculiar that Rangiora has no factories or industries to "give the backing that is usually needed for a town of any size. With the exception of a firm which manufactures electric pumps there are no concerns engaged in export industries. There are no freezing works or mills in the town, which is a purely residential and shopping area. The shops are its mainstay and they arc greatly assisted by the fact that the Rangiora Saleyards Company conducts weekly sales in the centre of the town. Tuesday is market day. farmers from miles round accompanied by their wives and families, attend, and there are hundreds of cars parked in the town.
