WATER SUPPLY.
WAIMAKARIRI ASHLEY BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Wai-makariri-Ashley Water Supply Board was attended by Messrs Jas. Brown (chairman), J. I'. Dawson, F. A. Sheat, Geo. Wayland, and John Waller. The monthly report showed that it had been extremely difficult to keep a supply of water at the intake gates at Brown's Rock. The main stream changed its course and was now passing somo distance away from the intake. It had been necessary to keep a channel open higher up the stream to obtain a supply for the race. Mr S. Smith drew the Board's attention to the condition of the Cust river intake above Stoke, and it was decided that an inspection should bo made. Outstanding water charges were considered, and it was decided that the Board would be compelled to sue for 1930-31 charges. The secretary was instructed to pay out a fortnight's wages before Christmas. Commenting on the state of the river at Brown's Bock, the chairman said he had made an inspection within the last few days and considered the position to be serious so far as the water supply was concerned. The team and a gang of men had been engaged at intervals during the past month in keeping the channel open to lead water into the intake. Tliis had been done as a temporary measure with the hope that a flood would come down and open up a permanent channel. A small flood had occurred, and the caretaker was waiting for this to subside to seo if the stream had altered its course sufficiently to. give a supply of water. It was decided to wait for a further report from the headworks, and if there was any doubt about keeping a supply of water going the members of the Board would make an inspection at once. It was further decided that whatever the position an inspection would be made on December 19th. Accounts amounting to £263 15s od were passed for payment.
