BRIDGE OVER STYX.
■WORK TO BE PUT IN HAND IN APRIL. Having received from the Waimairi County Council ft letter accepting a suggestion that that body should pay a subsidy towards the erection of a bridge over the Styx river at Harbour road, Brooklands, the Waimakariri River Trust hopes to commence the work about April next. At the previous meeting of the Trust it was stated that the cost of the work to the County Council would be £175, but if it were dono under tho No. 5 (Scheme the minimum amount ot the county's contribution would be' £145. The county offered £l2O towards tho work, and Mr W. P. Spencer guaranteed to rind tho extra £25. "What about the amount promised S.t tho Inst meeting?" asked a member of Mr fc>pencer. "I have got that," replied Mr Spencer. ''Thev tell me that you had it in your pocket when you mado the offer ;it the previous meeting," said Mr A. Manlnre. Mr Spencer: I would not say that. Asked when tho work would be commenced, the chairman replied that the dat<* would be about tho beginning of perhaps a week earlier. The plans of tho bridge would liavo to bo passed by tho Marino Department. He added that the Trust would require the money from tho Council before the work was put in hand. "That will be all right," said Mr Spencer.
