"Women of Australia, —Wo ivish U) make an urgent request to you. The problem of unemployment is taxing the ability of the wisest. To alleviate the misery it is causing is a duty that is happily within tho reach of most, and one that specially appeals to the human sympathy of women. i hristinas is again c-loso upon us, and ib a. time when 'purse strings are always more than ever loosened by generous impulses. Wo can all . satisfy our sympathy, our generosity, and our patriotism by marking the coming Christmas in a definite way. If we each firmly resolve and make known our resolve that our Christmas' purchases shall be by preference, first the products of Australia, and next Llie products of other parts of the Empire, we shall render a great service, vrt'c can in this way bring a practical and most welcome contribution of happiness and encouragement to many fellow Australians and others who share with us the ties of Empire.'' 1 - C HKISTCHU RCH FREE AMBULANCE. The Ciiristeliureh Free Ambulance, as part ot its appeal for funds, is holding a Christmas lair at the headquarters, 260 Cashcl street, commencing to-morrow. The fair will be opened at 2.30 p.m. by tho Hon. Mr Justice Adams. Tho .free Ambulance has been under new management from July loth, and from that time until December 10th 396 calls have been answered. Tho services rendered to the community are free. It is hoped that every support will be given by the public at tlie fair. The stalls include produce, flowers, sweets, cakes, Christmas puddings, novelties, needlework, iee cream, bran tub, Christmas tree, afternoon tea, etc. For the baby show for girls and boys under six and 12 months cash prizes will be given. -VLiue. .Lourmand, oil her :100th birthday, danced with her daughter, aged <B, at St. Nazaire, France.
