KING'S BROADCAST

| THE CHRISTMAS MESSAGE. WHOLE EMPIRE TO LISTEN-IN. (.BRITISH OPPICUt. VIMLSSSJ (Received November 27th, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, November 26. The King 9 Christmas broadcast will be radiated by all transmitters in the British Broadcasting Corporation as well as the now Empire broadcasting station. Ilis Majesty will speak from Sandriugham, where lie and the Queen are to spend Christmas. This will be the King's first broadcast talk direct to the nation, as previously ho has been heard on the wireloss only when attending functions. On this occasion ho will probably speak from his study. An earlier message stated that differences in time will be overcomo by the use of the Blattnerphone, which records the words and enables the message to follow the sun, so that listeners in every country will receive it at the same hour by the clock. The Blattnerphone system has already been, successfully used in England for recording notable events, the chief occasion this year being when the British Broadcasting Corporation used it to givo a composite improssion of the berby. A writer in the "Week-End Review" of June 11th last said of the record of the Derby that it "was so good that no difference could bo detected bctwoon the actual broadcast and the reproduction. As a means of lending colour to news bulletins tbis dovice opens up interesting possibilities." The Blattnerphone makes its record of sounds on a tape, and consequently the record can bo arranged by means of cutting and piecing togother as in making lilms, so that only the essential and interesting parts remain. In a record of an international conference, for example, the essential parts of addresses by several speakers can be put together to give a composite impression where a straightout record would be long and lacking in interest.
