ADDINGTON MARKET.

WEDNESDAY'S SALE. j The store sheep market on Wednesday drew* a very small gathering of farmers, and consequently there was not much buying power. Quite a fair demand prevailed for good sorts of ewes near lambing, but there was not tnueh of a selection. Ewe hoggets sold relatively well. Now that the worst of the winter is over and with it the ri.«k attending turnip feeding, hoggets arc a more attractive proposition than they were a few months ago. A pen of fair ewes with a full percentage of well-grown lambs sold at 4s Id, all counted. It is a dismal price, bur, probably the reflection of the depreswing outlook for fat lamb export. It is not very eonsoling to compare to-day's prices, with those of two years ago, when good two-tooth ewes were selling at up to 235. The following is a comparison of values at this week's market® and tho corresponding one of last year:— Sept. 2nd Sept. sth . 1931. 1932. I. I. 3. I. Lwti— Good u.m. Jb<l 13i to 14i Ew«« and lambs (•11 counted) 3IJ to 4i Good ».ai. Jb<l 13} to 141 Ord. a.m. Jbd 10 to 13 8 to 9J fi.m. xbd 85 to 101 Ord. <J and 8-th |bd .. to 142 S. and f.m. .. 51 to 6J Aged .. 3J to 5 Good hoggets .. 13 to 15 tV«th«r»— Good conditioned to 14 Tat Sheep. . The surprise of the market was tho steady sale for fat sheenp. There wore indication* of a slight slackness over the first couple of races, but it failo>i to materialise, and over the middle and the later stages there was a free disposal. The two preceding sales drew short entries, and presumably the trade had few sheep on hand. Values show very little recession on last year for wethers, but ewes sold singularly well last season, and the difference in this section la more pronounced. Two years ago, at the corresponding market, wethers sold to 41s. Comparisons with bat year are as follows:

Pat Cattle. The beef market appears unable to respond to influences that affect values is other departments. The entry was not a large one—34o head—but it appeared to be too much for the buying power, and there was again a tendency towards easier values. There vii a particularly good showing of quality beef, but even this did not stiranlato competition. The market, of lsto could not have shown any margin —except the wrong way—on North bland cattle, and there were none to hud this week. A lot of good beef sold at little over 20s per 1001b. It is I rather discouraging to see 700 or 8001b bodies selling at £7 or £B, but if past experience U a guide there should be some improvement towards the end of the month. Two years agb in early September, good ca,ttle were lwHwg £2O to £25; this year, just as good, less than, half these prices. Comparisons:—
